Chamaecereus silvestrii cactus

Chamaecereus silvestrii

Flowers orange to scarlet funnel shaped

Commonly known as the `Peanut` cactus this plant can be found growing wild in the mountainous regions of northern Argentina. Here amongst the harsh and stony terrain it thrives and this may well explain why it is such a relatively tough plant doing well even outside here in UK during the Summer(in a window box for example) and as long as it is kept absolutely dry in Winter outside it can remain even tolerating a few degrees of frost.Allowing the plant to dry completely during the resting period will also help it to produce a greater show of flowers the following Spring. The spines are small and relatively soft about 1-2mm long and the flowers are a striking red in colour and around 4cm across.Flowers appear mid-summer
